The energy shifts and decay widths of the 1s and 2p atomic states are calculatedwith potentialswhich reproduce scattering data well. Our theoreticalpredictions are not in line with experimental data for the energy shifts of the 2p atomic states. The experimentaldata show that the averaged energy level of the 2p atoms is pushed up by the strong interaction, the same as for the1s atoms, but the theoretical results uniquely showthe averaged energy level shifting down. The investigation of the atoms mayprovide a good platform for refining the interaction, especially at zero energy since theenergy shifts of the 2p atomic states are verysensitive to the strong interactions. The pionium is studied in various strong interactions. It is foundthat the interaction in the meson-exchange model with the scalercoupling for the -exchange is unreasonably strong forthe pionium system. The pionium system favors the gradient couplingfor the -exchange, and demands a much weaker coupling for the t-channel -exchange. Apractical pion-pion potentialmay be derived from the chiral perturbation theory, which canreproduce both the pionium and pion-pion scattering data and isapplicable to other multi-pion systems, for example, the pion gasprobably produced in high-energy heavy-ioncollisions. The energy shift, decay width and wave function of the kaonichydrogen are evaluated with various potentials. We found that expectfor the decay width derived thephenomenological potential, all other theoretical values are much larger than theDEAR data. However, the theoretical results for both the purephenomenological potential and thechiral SU(3) symmetry basedpotentials are fairly consistent with the KEK measurements, considering the large error of the KEK values of the 1skaonichydrogen decay width. At this moment, however, it is difficult toconclude whether the equivalent potentials based on chiral SU(3)models are reasonable since the KEK and DEAR data are soinconsistent each other. One may have to wait for the more accuratemeasurement of the 1skaonic hydrogen by the SIDDHARTAcollaboration.
