Abstract :
Abstract Butterfly diversity in Sakaerat Environmental Research Station (SERS) was investigated for three years, from October 2005 to September 2008. From 36 surveys, we found 304 butterfly species (19,277 individuals) in total, while dry evergreen forest had more butterfly diversity (238 species, 12,500 individuals) than dry dipterocarp forest (210 species, 6,777 individuals). One hundred and fourty four species live in both forests while 66 species found only in dry dipterocarp forest and 94 species found only in dry evergreen forest. May had the highest butterfly species and number (138 species, 1,898 individuals). The Dam trail has the highest butterfly diversity (193 species, 6,445 individuals). Eurema simulatrix was the most abundant butterfly in SERS (1,406 individuals) and in dry evergreen forest (754 individuals) but Prosotus gracillis was the most abundant butterfly in dry dipterocarp forest (861 individuals). The Shannon Index of dry evergreen forest (1.76) was more than dry dipterocarp forest (1.71). For relationship between physical factors and butterflies, Shannon Index was negatively significant correlated with relative humidity and temperature (p < 0.01), but number of butterfly species and individual were positively significant correlated with relative humidity and temperature (p < 0.01). However, number of butterfly individuals, number of butterfly species and Shannon index in dry evergreen forest was significantly different from dry dipterocarp forest (p < 0.01), and relative humidity in dry evergreen forest was significantly different from dry dipterocarp forest (p < 0.05), but temperature and rainfall were not.
